Frequently Asked Questions
What broadband services are offered?
NU offers high-speed Internet and voice services to both residential and business customers in the NU service area. Fiber broadband, where available, offers a variety of symmetrical speeds–up to 1 Gig! In select locations, we also offer Fixed Wireless broadband service.
Many factors affect speed. Speeds cannot be guaranteed.
What is the advantage of fiber broadband?
Fiber broadband provides higher bandwidth and can transmit data over longer distances compared to traditional wired cables. A single strand of fiber can easily provide broadband services to a neighborhood of 32 to 64 homes—at speeds of more than 1 Gigabit per second!
What does broadband internet mean?
According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), broadband is an internet connection that has a minimum download speed of 23Mbps (Megabits per second) and a minimum upload speed of 3Mbps. Fiber broadband will allow NU to provide much higher speeds—up to 1 Gigabit per second—consistently and symmetrically. That means the upload speed will be as fast as the download speed, which is important when uploading photos, working from home on a VPN connection, or working with cloud based applications.
How much does it cost?
NU’s fiber broadband services are competitively priced. Residential high-speed Internet service starts low as $44.95 per month. Home phone service, which includes unlimited local and long distance calling, is only $32.95 per month. Fixed Wireless Internet service is $64.95 per month.
